Professor Michael Grätzel of Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, visited the laboratory.

Professor Michael Grätzel, from the Photonics and Interface Laboratory of Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, visited the laboratory on June 11 afternoon 2016, and made an academic report titled “Energy beyond oil” in the meeting room A301 of Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics. The talk was hosted by Professor Hongwei Han. More than 100 students and teachers from Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, School of materials science and engineering and School of Physics listened to the report.

In the speech, Professor Michael Grätzel introduced that the depletion of fossil fuel resources lead to global crisis ofglobal warming and environmental pollution. The photoelectric conversion mechanism of based on dye or perovskite lightabsorbing materials with high efficiency and low cost of the solar cell, great achievements of the research group in recent years and the future applicationprospects of perovskite type solar cell had been discussed. The report of professor Michael Grätzel was clear and broaden our horizons, systematically introduced the development history from dye sensitized solar cells toperovskite solar cells. It was simple but profound and fascinating, provided anew perspective of the development of new energy.

After the report, professor Michael Grätzel launched a warm discussion with teachers and students about the electronic transmission layer modified, hole transport layeralternative, photoelectric properties and application prospect and challengesof perovskite solar cells. Teachers and students showed great enthusiasm to research group of professor Michael Grätzel and asked many academic questions with awarm atmosphere. The patient, detailed and vivid answers of professor Michael Grätzel left a deep impression to all teachers and students.
